JLA Advogados was elected as the best law firm of the year in the African market, at the international awards Africa Legal Awards 2020, an initiative of Law.com International publisher.
It was also shortlisted for "Law Firm of the Year" in 2021, and Zara Jamal was nominated as "Partner of the Year". In 2022, the firm was shortlisted in the categories "Banking & Finance Team of the Year" and "Litigation and Dispute Resolution Team of the Year".
In 2024, it was shortlisted for "African Law Firm of the Year", "African Law Firm of the Year – Southern Africa", and Zara Jamal was once again nominated, this time as "Partner of the Year – Southern Africa".
Zara Jamal, Partner at JLA Advogados, was distinguished in an initiative of Iberian Lawyer, the legal information journal of Portugal, Spain and Latin America. Every two years the publication selects forty lawyers under the age of forty who are most prominent in the Iberian Peninsula in their field of practice.
Zara Jamal’s career has been particularly focused on Banking and Finance Law, in sectors such as banking, mining and oil and gas. She may also be noted for the work she has done in the setting up and growth of JLA Advogados.
In 2019, the Forty under Forty awards were divided into two categories for the first time: individual honours and team honours. The Individual category honours the best lawyers under 40 in twenty practice areas.
Chambers and Partners (Global) recognised, in 2024, JLA Advogados for General Business Law in Mozambique and, individually, also distinguished Zara Jamal, Partner at JLA.
